Empowering Wellness
Clinical herbalism consultations and education: promoting personal sovereignty in health and wellness by supporting the body’s innate ability to heal itself
Holistic Consultations
I’m Corey, a community/clinical herbalist and educator based in Philadelphia, PA (on Lenape land). I offer virtual one-on-one consultations (and group educational opportunities) to help people achieve a holistic sense of balance and wellness.
I work with many people who are overwhelmed by the demands of a colonized and capitalistic society, which often results in things like chronic stress, inflammation, pain, fatigue, anxiety, digestive issues, nervous and hormonal imbalances. The goal of our work together is to take back ownership of your own health and wellness while finding balance of mind, body and spirit.
After a thorough intake and consultation, I’ll use my understandings of western vitalist herbalism, traditional knowledge, and modern scientific evidence to create a personalized holistic protocol for you. You’ll receive a list of recommendations, which may include herbal teas and tinctures, as well as nutritional and lifestyle recommendations to address imbalances and root causes. You may choose to purchase recommended herbal teas & tinctures from my personal apothecary if you’d like.
Following our first meeting, I’ll be available for follow-up appointments to adjust your protocol and/or introduce new recommendations as appropriate. I will continue to offer education, guidance, and accountability for as long as we both choose to work together.
Herbal Medicine
Plants are the oldest form of medicine, and herbal medicine is for and of the people. Plant remedies can nourish the body and stimulate vital expression, affect tissue quality, and have other direct actions. We can prioritize building relationships with and learning from the plants in addition to consuming them as medicine.
Adequate Nutrition
Nutrients are the building blocks of our bodies, and it’s important to address deficiencies and imbalances while also ensuring adequate hydration. Balance and wellness can be encouraged by healthy relationships with food and food preparation, and through connection to the sources of our food. A healthful diet should be rich in nourishing, nurturing plants and whole foods.
Supportive Lifestyle
Lifestyle choices are essential in prioritizing holistic well-being and can affect our bodies physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Skillful ways of managing stress can include: time in nature, healthy movement & adequate rest, sense of purpose in community, and healthy boundaries & emotional expression.
Decolonization & Indigenization
The harmful ideologies of colonization should be acknowledged and deconstructed; privilege, systemic oppression, and power dynamics all have profound impacts on our health and wellbeing. We should profoundly change our relationship with the land and bring indigenous practices and knowledge into society at large. We should actively work to identify and eliminate racism, and redistribute & share power equitably.
Personal Sovereignty
People should have a right to healthy (sustainable and nutritious), culturally appropriate food and medicine, as defined by the people. Building and valuing relationships over ownership and objectification can encourage a focus on reciprocity and stewardship.
